Obituary for Sandra Skinner
It is with heavy hearts we regretfully announce the passing of Alexandrina (Sandy, Sandra) Mary, Skinner (Munro) of Peterborough, Ontario on Friday, March 24, 2023. Sandy, as many of us knew her as, passed away peacefully at the Peterborough Regional Hospital. Our family thanks the Emergency Room "RED" team who gave Sandra the respect and heath care she deserved.
Sandra was one of the strongest, courageous, supportive, and kindest women to ever walk this earth and our family was blessed to have her as wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
In 1968, Sandra immigrated to Toronto with her husband Norman, from their native Scotland, where some of our family still reside today. Together, Sandra and Norman went on to have 3 children, eldest son, Scott and his spouse, Melinda Ferlisi, and their children, Griffin and Hudson; eldest daughter, Lesley and her spouse, Martin Kearns, and their children, Finnlay and Sullivan; and youngest daughter, Laura, who resides in Scotland with her partner Graeme and his son, Logan. Sandra was a wonderful and loving woman who gave her all to her family. We will never be able to fill the space left behind by her.
While raising their family, Sandra worked as the bookkeeper and partner in the family business, Peterborough Ortho LTD. We will remember Sandy as an active member in our community, working at the Peterborough YMCA at reception for many years. Sandra was an active volunteer in Peterborough supporting the YMCA as a fitness instruct, an instrumental founding member of the St. John Therapy Dog program, and an active member of Grace United Church as a secretary with the Parish Nursing program. She is also known and admired for her contributions to Scouts Canada at Knox United Church and, up until her passing, Sandra knitted hundreds of mittens for the United Way's Cold Weather Program. It is hard to believe that Sandra still found time to challenge herself mentally and physically by training and completing nine (9) Ottawa Marathons in the 1980's and 90's – a wonderful accomplishment for anyone.
Alexandrina (Sandra) is predeceased by her parents, Elizabeth and Peter Munro, (Glasgow, Scotland) and her brother, Charles (Oban, Scotland). Sandra is survived by Charles' wife, Jessy and their children.
