Obituary for Carl Moore

Moore: Carl Nelson
On the evening of May 25th, 2022 in Port Hope ON, Carl Nelson Moore passed peacefully; he was comforted by family (including his beagle, Maggie). Son of Louis Milton Moore and Laura May (Gowland) Moore, the youngest of six and a fraternal twin to Clair Moore, Carl grew up in Caledonia ON, on the Moore farm. He went on to study at McMaster University, the University of Toronto (Master’s in Divinity), and later completed post graduate studies in Psychotherapy in New York. Carl married Ethel May (Gilbert) Moore, and they were called to serve in three church communities. At the end of his ministry-career, he became chaplain at McMaster in the 1960s. Ethel and Carl had three children: James Lyle Moore (spouse, Kara Low), Gilbert William Moore (spouse, Jamie-Lee Moore), and Kathryn Louise Moore (spouse, Stanley Alfred Arleigh McKenzie). Carl is also survived by three grandchildren: Nicholas James Moore and Heather Louise Moore (of Bill and Jamie); Michael Gilbert Arleigh McKenzie (of Kathryn and Alfred). In the second part of his life, Carl partnered with Trish Graham and together they had daughter Suzannah Wesley Moore. Carl had a natural sense of wonder, and a passion for life. This was expressed in many ways, including through his career in Psychotherapy (when he ran an institute for psychotherapy with Ken Allen in Toronto), becoming an instrument-rated pilot, and harbouring a curiosity in many fields including astronomy, astrophysics, theology, and the natural world. He also made the best pancakes. A celebration of Carl’s life will be held at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, 51 King Street, Port Hope ON – Saturday June 11th 2022 @ noon. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer Society in Carl’s memory.
