Obituary for Cheryl Ellis

ELLIS, Cheryl Jan
November 17, 1946 – March 14, 2023

After a courageous & miraculous battle with a Glioblastoma diagnosis in 2019, wherein she never lost her independence and hope for survival, Cheryl Jan Ellis passed peacefully on March 14th, 2023 at age 76. Her youngest daughter Kelly at her side and oldest daughter Jocelyn entranced by the Aurora borealis, mid-flight.

Cheryl is known for her loving, charismatic, kind gentle spirit, unmeasurable strength, her playful & quirky wit, and mostly for her creative ability, an artist of all mediums. Cheryl’s talented artistic portfolio spans from her Grade 2 desk, sketching for classmates in Noblesville, Indiana. Where she went on to study at the Herron
School of Art of Indiana University. She then travelled north to Canada in 1970. Through the years Cheryl studied fine artistry with well-known artists, completing courses leading to the creation of ‘Ellimental Artworks’ where large garden sculptures came to life.

In 2010, Cheryl attained a Certificate in Millinery, and became better known as “P’tula Couture Chapeau”. Having fun with STRUTT talent and finding herself in newspaper ads led to acting in a local film directed by Adriano Ferreri. Cheryl started teaching art in her grandsons’ classroom and just recently in her community. Cheryl retired from the United Way Peterborough in 2013, only then to spend countless hours volunteering with Transition Town, Market Hall Peterborough, and many more local initiatives and individual talents.

In 2021, Cheryl devoted herself as a loving and valued member of Peterborough’s Seventh-day Adventist Church, recently having attained the ordination as Church Deacon. Her dedication and love for God, Jesus, Allah and her valued friendships with the Church members led to the very important role she played in the daily activities of the Church. God’s love is evident in the blessed life she lived. She touched the heart and soul of everyone she met and her presence will be deeply missed.

The love she gave will be forever cherished by her daughters, Jocelyn Miller and Kelly Rossignol (Kris Chu), her grandchildren, Reese Rossignol and Nola Chu, and the many dear, dear friends and family members. We all hold onto so many loving memories to revere. Cheryl is predeceased by her parents, Robert “Bob” Ellis and
Dorothy Ellis, and will be fondly remembered by Bob Holmes, her sister, Marla Holmes, and her nephews, Rob and Arnold Holmes.

Cheryl’s Celebration of Life Service will be held on April 2, 2023, from 1:00 -4:00 pm at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 649 Romaine Street, Peterborough, Ontario. Please join us early for a Visitation, a Service and Reception will follow thereafter. The family would like to encourage donations instead of flowers to be made to the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 649 Romaine Street, Peterborough, Ontario.
