Obituary for David Lyall

LYALL, David Wayne

David Wayne Lyall, son of the late Charlie and Jean Lyall, husband of the late Wendilin Lyall (nee Killian) left this world on January 28th at 3:25 pm surrounded by loved ones at Hospice Peterborough. He will be dearly missed by his son Mackenzie, his two daughters Natalie (Adrian) and Bethanie (Chris Vyn), his doting grandchildren Lex and River, his brothers Charlie and Michael (Ken), and sister Marsha (Charlotte). David will be greatly missed by his partner and companion these last 10 years, Patti Briggs along with her children.

When asked what he like to do for fun or in his spare time he would say, “I like to visit”. And he was good at it. To Visit (capital “V” for added emphasis) with David was to be seen and heard - to laugh and to think. He had a way of attending, of looking and really listening. He would often pause, take time and respond with more questions, more interest, and sometimes simple but direct “suggestions” or “musings”.

David approached life’s ups and downs with a great delight and a profound curiosity. His delight overflowed in his “hahaha” high pitched laugh as he would visit and joke. He carried this delight with him wherever he went, but it was especially evident in his visits with his family and friends, and in his times of solitude at the cabin. His curiosity made him a man of wonder and insight. He charted the sun, studied the constellations, delved into the mathematics of the golden ratio and loved to tinker on projects of all kinds. For years David was a student of karate, and in his most recent years, Taoist Tai Chi. He loved the time and space to execute the 108 moves. Beyond the practice of the movements, he became a person of “the Way”. He often spoke of the Way of nature, the Way of the river and the Way of our lives. He lived comfortably with the slogan “when it is time”. For those of us left here living it is often hard to trust this statement because it seems he has left us too soon.

A Celebration of life will be held at The Black Horse Pub in Peterborough Ontario on Saturday, February 4, 2023 between 2 and 5 pm to honour David and one of his favorite pastimes - visiting and drinking beer. In lieu of flowers donations to Hospice Peterborough are appreciated.
