Obituary for Eleanor Keitel (Brown)

KEITEL, Eleanor Ernestine (nee Brown)

Eleanor Ernestine Keitel (nee Brown), beloved wife of the late Duncan Alexander Keitel (2002), passed away peacefully at PRHC on July 8, 2022 in her 95th year.

Eleanor was born December 15, 1927 in Trent River, Ontario. She was raised by her Grandmother Esther Jane Free and her Uncle John Lawson after the death of her parents, Eleanor Ernestine (Free) Brown and Harold James Brown. Eleanor was predeceased by her siblings Edmund (Laura) Brown, Ada (Daniel) MacEachern, and Clifford (Gloria) Brown.

Eleanor was a loving mother of Kirk (Cheryl), Kristine (Dean) Lees, Jon (Monique), Peter (Audrey), Karen (Gary Galley) and Scott (Lori). Dear Grandmother of 17 and GG to 21.

Eleanor graduated as a Registered Nurse from Peterborough Civic Hospital in 1949. Her first job took her to Wiarton Hospital where she nursed until her marriage in 1953. She continued to work as a private nurse off and on until she returned to full time nursing at General Electric in Peterborough. She then moved on and nursed at the Keene Medical Center until her retirement. Eleanor remained close with her nursing sisters her entire life, Marion, Dottie B, Jerry, Sally, Jean B, Helen, Lottie, and Werry.

Eleanor lived in Trent River and Campbellford growing up and after marriage moved to Keene where she spent the rest of her life. Eleanor had many friends and associates in Keene.

We are grateful to the caring doctors, nurses, therapists and staff on B2 at PRHC.

A celebration is being planned for Eleanor at a future date. If you care to make a donation, they can be made to Sick Children's Hospital or a charity of your choice.

Always writing poetry, she leaves us with this:

Don't mourn for me, my loved ones

I have this wish to share

Just look up at the heavens and wave goodbye

And say, Mom, Grandma, GG, friend, I'll pray that you are there.
