Obituary for Gary Armstrong

Gary James Armstrong
June 24, 1948 – May 8, 2022

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Gary James Armstrong, late of Niagara Falls, ON., at the Niagara Regional Hospital on Sunday, May 8, 2022, following a brief illness. Cherished husband of Francoise Nyiraneza and dearly loved step father of Christian, Samantha and Holly Kaikai. Dear son of the late Roger and Joyce (nee Pearson) Armstrong. Beloved brother of Marilyn McArthur (Brian, deceased 2018), Rosemary Chatten (Charlie), Doug Armstrong (Kathy), Linda Jackman (Bob), and the late Bryan Armstrong (deceased 2019).
Dear brother-in-law of Dr. Pierre Rukundo (Jeanne), Nadine Vandermortello (Luc), Nadeje Uwineza, Claudette Rwarahoze, and Frida Brodie (Mike). Much loved uncle to numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

Gary was a retired Bell Canada employee. He took early retirement due to some health issues. He enjoyed farming for several years, going back to his roots having grown up on the family farm on the 17th Line of Smith Township. Gary was passionate about hunting and beleaguered the fact that he had to miss the 2021 dear hunt due to leg surgery. The first he’d missed in over 40 years. He loved to fish, do woodworking and took great pride in growing a productive vegetable garden. He loved music, particularly country and had a good singing voice. He played the guitar, but not so much in recent years. Going dancing was a favourite activity for Gary, as was spending time with his siblings and at larger family gatherings. Gary is and will be sadly missed by his puppy William.

Family and friends are invited to pay their final respects at the Ashburnham Funeral Home and Reception Centre, 840 Armour Road, Peterborough, ON., 705-740-0444.
