Obituary for Jack Christopher

CHRISTOPHER, Jack
September 30, 1934 ~ April 20, 2023

Jack passed away peacefully in his 89th year after managing through many health issues with a positive attitude, and always a smile. He was in his garden just days before, working the property that has been in his family since before he was born.

Loving husband to Diana of 63 years. Jack and Diana were high school sweethearts and lived a wonderful life adventure together. From teenagers, to parents, to grandparents they were rarely apart.

Loving father to Brenda (Tom) and Greg (Cathe) and enthusiastic grandfather to Jo, Sarah, Adam, and Holly. Jack thought the world of his grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

After retiring in 1990 from the school board in Toronto, Jack and Diana built their retirement home on the property that his family had owned since 1934 and in the community that his ancestors had called home since 1832.

Jack was very involved in the community, as a member of Bridgenorth United Church and volunteering for Community Care and the Beautification Committee. He dedicated many years maintaining the gardens at Heritage Park and throughout Bridgenorth. For his service to the community, he received the Queen’s Jubilee Medal and an Award of Recognition from the County of Peterborough.

Such a creative man! His hobbies included landscape painting, building intricate models, and gardening but his favourites were carpentry and woodcarving. Jack grew up on the water — fishing and boating, and he loved towing the kids on skis and tubes. He was proud to waterski every year and last skied at the age of 82!

Special thanks to so many friends who have surrounded Jack and Diana over the years. Whether it was teachers, golf, church, or the neighbours, he loved a party and sharing his home with everyone. Friends were very important to him — he was always happy to see you!

His wish for all of us was that we treat each other well, love each other and value and treasure friendships. A toast to Jack for a life well lived!

A memorial reception to celebrate Jack’s life will be held on Thursday, May 4 at 1:00 pm at Ashburnham Funeral Home, 840 Armour Rd, Peterborough.

If you are so inclined, donations in Jack's name to Peterborough Regional Health Centre or the children's charity of your choice would be welcome.
