Obituary

Gogo, John William
January 14, 1946 to February 8, 2021

John William Gogo passed away peacefully on February 8, 2021, at 75 years of age. Loving husband to his wife of 39 years, Cathy (nee Stocker), and devoted father to his children, Lauren, Joelle (Ben Kheir) and Mitchell.

Predeceased by his mother, Audrey Gogo (nee Whitlock) and brother, Richard Gogo. Lovingly remembered by his father Norman Gogo of Penetanguishene, his sister Wendy Knight (Jack) of Wasaga Beach, and sisters-in law Merle Gogo (Al Denny) of Angus, Janet McGuire (Lou) of Greely, Susan Blanchard (Tom) and Betty Prideaux (Thane) of Brockville, Ontario; uncle to Lisa Sutton, Jamie Knight, Chris Knight, Karen Thompson, Dave Gogo, Kerry Walsh, James Blanchard.

John was born in Weston, Ontario and after completing his MA in History and Political Science at the University of Toronto, began working for the Canadian Government in Employment and Immigration in Toronto, where he met his future wife Cathy. After marrying, John moved his family to Newmarket and then to Peterborough 25 years ago, where he spent the last seven years of his 31-year career with Human Resources Development Canada as an Area Director. John enjoyed 18 years of retired life, with a keen interest in home renovations and gardening, always working on some part of the house and property. John was devoted to his family and was always happiest when he was with them. John and Cathy enjoyed travelling, especially the many driving vacations to Florida with the children, as well as trips to the Caribbean, England, Hawaii and China.
Sincere thanks to Hospice Peterborough, St. Elizabeth Health Care and the staff at PRHC who were so kind and caring during John’s year of treatments.

Family and friends will be received at Ashburnham Funeral Home, 840 Armour Road, on Tuesday February 16, 2021 from 12:45 – 1:45 pm followed by a Celebration of John’s Life at 2 pm. DUE TO COVID 19 REGULATIONS, REGISTRATION FOR VISITATION AND SERVICE IS REQUIRED and you may RSVP on John’s obituary page and also find the registration link for the Livestream of the service at AshburnhamFuneral.ca

My sincere condolences to you, Cathy, and your family. John took over the reins for me when I left Peterborough to return to Barrie. I know he loved his posting in Kawartha Lakes Management Area. I enjoyed our many chats on work related issues and the pleasures of living in beautiful Peterborough.

So sorry to hear of John’s passing. Our condolences to Cathy and her children and all his family members. We remember meeting John and Cathy at the Peterborough Curling Club. Played in mixed curling. John was very social and had a great sense of humour. Not a bad curler either but never took it seriously. Have not seen him for years but was able to catch up with Cathy when we saw her at various events. He will be missed. Lorne and Vicki Allen

Most sincere sympathies to Cathy and family. Memories of John and Mitch and many cold and early mornings at hockey practice. Always a twinkle in his eye and a humours word.
