Obituary for John Simpson

SIMPSON, John Duncan 1931 - 2022

Passed away June 30, 2022, at age 90. Predeceased by his Scottish parents, John and Jean; and his sister, Jean Ruthowsky. Survived by his wife of 70 years, Barbara, who he met at a GYMA dance in the Beaches. He also leaves behind his brother, David; and three children, Cathy (Barron), Don (Linda) and Amy. He was close to his grandchildren, Jenna, Carly, Michael, Cameron and Melanie. He was blessed to meet and know his first great-grandchild, Clayton,

in recent times. John was honoured to have had home care from so many sweet angels. Thank you to you all for your kindness to both John and Barb, these last few years. John lived life to the fullest, and from humble beginnings - he had to wash his one white shirt every time he went on a date with Barbara. Starting as a labourer, he then become an entrepreneur, owning a construction company. In his retirement, he volunteered at East General Hospital, joined the Auxiliary Police force and was a Court Officer. In his spare time, he was a pilot, ski instructor, polo player, tennis and squash player, and traveller. He spent many years at Kew Gardens, Balmy Beach Club, Myrtle Beach and Siesta Key. In the '50s, Crown land was available, and John and Barb found the dream Island; the family still enjoys the pristine and secluded property they found. Memories of water skiing on saucers and ladders, cedar strip boats…blocks of ice for the fridge, the grands can still taste the midnight butter tarts with milk. John had two plaques that said it all, "Don't Quit", and "The Golden Rule". We are lucky to have been along for the ride. It was quite a trip! Rest in peace, John.
