Obituary for John Thompson

It is with great sadness and love to announce the passing of John Francis Thompson at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Sunday May 21, 2023 at the age of 83. Beloved husband of 58 years to Frances (nee Sullivan). Father to Katherine Botelho (Paul) and proud grandfather to Oliver and Gabriel. Predeceased by his parents Jack and Dorothy Thompson and brother Harold. Survived by his sister Sally Parsons (Steve) and sister-in-law Aina Thompson. Dear brother-in-law to the late Bernice Nolan (Jim), Herbert Sullivan (Mary) and John Jones. Loved by Hilda Jones, Allan Sullivan (Donna), Joanne McAuliffe (William). He will be missed by his many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

John was born in Guelph, Ontario and moved to East City in Peterborough where he worked at Outboard Marine and in the Uranium Mine in Elliot Lake. John loved to fish and operated the Fishing Lodge at La Cloche Lake and then retired to La Cloche Lake Massey, Hastie Lake (where he flew his plane in) and eventually returned to Peterborough County and lived in Lakefield and Peterborough. John lived life to its fullest, happiest in the outdoors with fond memories of all his adventures and the people who crossed his life’s path.

The family wish to extend their sincere gratitude to the loving caregivers in Community Care, Canterbury Gardens special nursing care and PRHC.

Expressions of sympathy, for those wishing, may be made to Peterborough Hospice or a Charity of your Choice.

The family will receive friends at Immaculate Conception Church on Tuesday May 30th for Visitation at 11 am followed by Memorial Mass at 12 noon.
