O’Connor, Joyce
Passed away at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on July 29, 2022 at the age of 92. Loving mother of Jay O’Connor and Colleen O’Connor Bellamy (Todd). Cherished nana to Connor and Evan Bellamy. Predeceased by her loving husband, Gerald O’Connor, to whom she was married for fifty years. Sister to the late Donald Mein. She will be missed by her sister-in-laws, Lois Mein and Shirley Brownlee, niece Cindy Mein Maloney and Rod Mein, cousins Bill Walker, Bill and Lee Cridland, and her dear friends, Marilyn MacDonald, Ron Wagstaff and the Gibson family. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews on the O’Connor side.
Joyce was born and raised in Peterborough. She worked at General Electric for several years. There she met her husband, Gerry. She spent countless hours volunteering for various charities, for hockey, lacrosse and figure skating events and at her children’s schools’ libraries. She loved attending city council events with Gerry and was heavily involved in the Peterborough Snofest for years. She was a talented singer in her youth, and she loved gardening and baking. She had amazing energy which she used to maintain her house by herself for the past 22 years. Joyce also loved socializing. Her Canada Day and Christmas parties will be remembered fondly by many who attended. She loved to chat and made friends easily with those around her. Her neighbours on Glebemount Crescent, where she lived for the last 67 years, appreciated her cheery greetings and thoughtful gestures.
Friends and family will be welcomed at Ashburnham Funeral Home, 840 Armour Road in Peterborough on Friday, August 5, 2022. Visitation is at 12 noon with the service at 1 PM. A reception will follow. Donations to PRHC would be appreciated by the family.
