Obituary for Loraine Miller

MILLER, Loraine Frances

Departed on Her spirit journey on March 23, 2022 at home on the traditional territory of Williams Treaties First Nations. Loraine was a loving and devoted partner to Janis McElrea for 35 years. Loving sister to Cathy (Keith), Gerry (Kathleen), Tom (Beth), Don (Lucia), Mary (Paul), Trish (Ying), John and Christine. Actively involved aunt to 23 nieces and nephews and 8 grand nieces and nephews (Miller and McElrea). Special Kuma to Angela Stimac Lapeer.

Loraine was a gardener, sculptor, actor, runner and baker extraordinaire, packing enormous energy and determination into her 62 years. Her working life included multifaith chaplain to individuals with intellectual disabilities and youth in conflict with the law. When her illness (glioblastoma) was diagnosed in December 2020 she was working in her most fulfilling career, assisting with land claim negotiations and settlements for Ontario’s Indigenous communities.

Family and friends will be received at Ashburnham Funeral Home, 840 Armour Road Peterborough for a gathering on Friday April 22, 2022 from 1-2pm. A Service of Celebration to be held in in the chapel at 2pm. Masks will be required. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers donations to Indspire or Kawartha Land Trust would be appreciated.
