McGARRITY, Margaret Mary
January 2nd 1933 - November 15th 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Margaret Mary McGarrity announce her sudden passing in her 90th year.

Margaret was the loving wife of the late Robert McGarrity. Dear mother of Karan Leal (Jeff), Mike McGarrity (Jennifer), and John McGarrity (Janice). Fondly remembered by her grandchildren Braden Leal, Shanae Leal, and Joel McGarrity.

Margaret was born in St. John, New Brunswick and was raised there together with her nine siblings, all of whom predeceased her. Margaret met her late husband, Robert, in St. John where they were married. They subsequently relocated to Peterborough (East City) where they worked and raised a family in a traditional marriage.

Margaret could regularly be found on the tennis courts. She was a long-term member of the Quaker Park Tennis Club who thoroughly enjoyed the spirit of competition. As the years would pass, it would become evident that her interest in the tennis club had little to do with tennis itself but so much more to do with how the club brought her family together.

Margaret lived her life guided by her deep faith, she was a kind and compassionate wife, mother, and grandmother. Family was constantly at the forefront of her thoughts. Always happy and optimistic, Margaret had a vibrant energy and a wonderful sense of humour. She was an amazing chef, a voracious reader, and an ardent sports fan – forever convinced, season to season, that the Leafs would win the cup.

Marg was grateful for all of her friends and family. Her life’s example will be a constant inspiration for all of us as we move forward. Until we meet again, Margaret, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

The family wishes to extend the greatest of appreciation to the health care providers of the Peterborough Regional Health Center for their exceptional care, guidance, and work ethic. In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome a charitable donation to the Peterborough Regional Health Care Foundation or, given Margaret’s profound love of animals, the Lakefield Animal Welfare Society, in Margaret’s memory.

Due to the continued public health crisis, the family has chosen a private funeral mass and interment.
