Obituary for Mark Andrew Coady

Mark Andrew Coady passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at Peterborough Regional Hospital.

Mark, the youngest of 7 children of Margaret and Joseph Coady of Toronto, was a unique and talented person. Dad instilled in Mark, during Mark's teenage years what turned out to be for Mark a lifelong interest, short wave radio, a pastime that led to life- long connections with people near and far.

His other major interest was astronomy. As a member of the Peterborough Astronomical Society, Mark advocated for the reduction of night sky light pollution so others might benefit as he had. In his last weeks, he found great consolation sitting at night on his deck, with his assistant, Percy, his dog close by, using his telescope to search the heavens.

Mark took pride in his work as a cable locator for Bell Telephone and in retirement offered his time, musical talent and genuine care for residents in a local care facility.

Mark was committed to his church and found great satisfaction in reading at mass, composing music and singing in the choir, participating in the Knights of Columbus, giving communion to the homebound, and yet still find the time to cook the sauce for many spaghetti dinner fundraisers. The deep expressions of concern about his health shared by church members and neighbours during his battle with cancer speak to the love, gratitude and admiration so many held for him.

Mark had a steadfast love for his wife and closest companion, Susan (nee Baldassarra). They enjoyed a marriage of shared activity, as seen in their mutual commitment to their faith community, their devotion to all animals (particularly their constant stream of pets), and to a variety of community causes. Mark led a life where he was comfortable with himself, appreciated by others and engaged in service to others in so many wonderful ways. He was blessed and in turn was a blessing to the several communities to which he belonged.

A requiem mass in celebration of his life will be held at St. Anne's Parish Church at a date still to be determined. May perpetual light shine upon him.
