Obituary for Mary Carmichael

CARMICHAEL, Marie Louise Antonia
Marie Louise Antonia Carmichael, affectionately known as Mary, Molly and Marluise, died peacefully in
Peterborough Ontario on October 7, 2022, after living with Parkinson’s Disease for close to two decades.
She lives forever in the hearts of her husband Hugh Phillip Carmichael, children Kelly (John Purcell),
Tracey (Linton Harrison), Janet (Andrew Snare), Kimberley, and grandchildren Jack, Alex, Damian,
Monica, and Emma. She was preceded in death by her daughter Debra, parents Heinrich and Helene
Suttorp (Grosse Kleimann), brother Heinz “Bubi,” and foster brother Eugene “Eugie” Proznuik.

Mary was born on November 27, 1933, in St. Boniface Manitoba, and she grew up with her four sisters,
Hiltrud, Irene, Helen and Cecelia, on their family farm in Little Britain. She initially worked as a
laboratory technician in Winnipeg, later embarking on adventures in her Chevy hardtop convertible
while living and working in Waukegan, Illinois. After enjoying travel and a rewarding career, Mary met
and married Hugh in 1963. From that point, she dedicated her life to creating a home and raising their
five girls. She was a loving mother and contributing member of her community on the West Island of
Montreal. Upon retirement, Mary and Hugh built their dream home and enjoyed summer months and
sunsets on Big Rideau Lake, and winter travels abroad. Mary was feisty! Her unwavering dedication to
those she loved, playful wit, and giving heart are cherished by everyone she touched.
