Obituary for Raymond (Ray) Jacques Desire Laval Stewart
Passed away at the age of 88 on March 1, 2023. Loving husband of the late Elizebeth Grace Stewart nee McLaren. Son of the late David and Winifred Stewart of Cobourg, On. Cherished father to Mark, Jane Burns (Greg), and Jim. Grandfather to Justin Burns (Kate). Great grandfather to Jett and Jaxton Burns. Dear brother to Bob (Edna), Margret Galaski (Pete), and Dave (Dorothy).
Ray was a life honorary member of the Knights of Columbus council #798, which he enjoyed involvement in various events and the fellowship of its members.
Ray started his working career at the age of eight as bus boy at the British Hotel in Cobourg to help support his family through hard times. Never without a job, he moved on to Canadian Canners (Grafton,On) then to General Wire and Cable (Cobourg). With his purchasing experience he was offered a position with the P.V.N.C.S.S Board as Supervisor of Transportation and Purchasing until retirement in1997.
Dad always enjoyed seeing a smile on peoples faces and often had a candy up for offer. He was generous and had a genuine concern for his family and friends. He will be greatly missed. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, March 16 at 2: 30 pm at St. Peter's In Chains, Peterborough with reception to follow. Donations to the Alzheimer society or charity of choice is appreciated.
