Green, Robert Allen
November 17, 1943 - January 3, 2023
Bob passed away suddenly at home, with his wife by his side, on January 3, 2023. He was the beloved husband and best friend of Kathleen (née O’Connor). Bob was predeceased by his loving parents Bill and Twila Green (from Top Bar, South Dakota and Hamilton, Ontario respectively) and by his beloved first wife Marlene Green of Peterborough. He was a cherished brother to Bill Green and Lynn Dicks, and brother-in-law to Joyce Green and the late Cyril Dicks. He will be dearly missed by the children of his wife Marlene: Warren, Dave (Andrea), and Ian (Lori) Green, and Carolyn (Cesar) Barrera, for whom he filled the role of stepfather during their marriage and after her passing. A wonderful grandfather to their children: Jordan, Mackenzie, Jessica, Adam, John, Charlie, and Scott. Bob will be remembered by his nephews Randy (Anna) and Tim Green and Cy Dicks Jr. (Jen), and niece Brigitte Eichner (Heiko). Dearly missed by lifelong friends David and Ela Butterworth and their children. His faithful dog and walking companion Cally grieves his loss.
Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Bob moved with his family at the age of 16 to the Buckhorn area (“Victoria Springs”) and then Peterborough, attending the opening year of Adam Scott Collegiate in 1960. Upon graduation he began his working life at CGE in Peterborough, where he worked for over 25 years, including at Bruce and Darlington Nuclear Generating Stations.
Away from work his favourite times were spent at family cottages on Lower Buckhorn and Jack Lake, where he could enjoy sailing and sunsets. His love of local history led him to volunteer on the boards of PACAC, Hutchison House and most recently the Lakefield Historical Society. He was passionate about heritage and the journey that peoples’ lives took, in particular his own family history. This curiosity for people and their lives made him a thoughtful listener and a good storyteller.
The stories and memories of his life will be shared by family and friends at a celebration of life, on January 21, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., in the Legacy Room of Ashburnham Funeral Home, 840 Armour Rd., Peterborough.
In memory of Bob, please consider a donation to Kawartha Land Trust or the United Way of Peterborough & District.
