Obituary for Ronald "Jim" Burgess

Burgess, Ronald James (Jim/Pappy).

Passed peacefully at PRHC on April 12, 2022 surrounded by his wife and children at the age of 72 after a difficult battle with cancer. Born October 9, 1949 in Peterborough to his late parents Ronald James and Norma Mabel (nee Smedmor). Loving husband of Karen (nee Paterson). Dear brother of Lona Burgess (Bunker). Beloved father of Gregory (Natalie), Andrew (Michelle) and Amanda. Cherished Pappy of Parker, Hudson, Aidan, Keegan, Olivia, and Trinity.

He really enjoyed riding his motorcycle and the outdoors, canoeing, camping, fishing, hunting, cycling and running that took him to compete in the 1982 Toronto marathon. He loved to play baseball, softball, golf and squash. Pappy loved watching his grandchildren in all of their wonderful activities. Jim cared deeply for his family and friends and always had a wonderful positive outlook on life. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.

Jim was a machinist and tool and die maker at Fisher Gauge for 23 years. Retired from Sysco Foods in 2015. Coached baseball and mentored young umpires as a member of the Kawartha Baseball Umpires Association for 20 years and the Peterborough Road Runners Association. A volunteer for Peterborough Crime Stoppers.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday April 30, 2022 at Ashburnham Funeral Home, 840 Armour Road from 10-11am. Celebration of Life to follow in the chapel at 11am. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Christian Horizons (Browns Line) would be appreciated. Online condolences may be left at AshburnhamFuneral.ca
