Obituary for Ruth Orsatti (Graves)

Ruth Orsatti Overview of Life
Ruth Orsatti was born in New Brunswick on October 5, 1932. She passed away at the age of 90 on
December 5, 2022. She was the second youngest child of the eleven children of Maisie Fenerty and
Willard Graves. For part of her life, she was raised in an old farmhouse until her family moved to St.
John. She told her own children and grandchildren stories about the ghosts that lived in that farmhouse,
and about the bull in the field that she had to pass every day on her way to school. Her grandmother
who lived with the family was very important to her, along with a big orange cat named Timothy.

She moved to Toronto at 16 and lived with her sister Margerie. Her sisters Vella and Barbara were also
in Toronto. The sisters remained close through much of their lives. She married Phil Orsatti at the age of
19. She and Phil had 3 children; Sandra, Tim, and Lisa. They had a pet store for many years in Toronto,
operated a zoo in Wasaga Beach, and later in life she owned a pet store with her son Tim in Barrie.
Eventually, she and Phil made their way to New Lowell, where Phil passed away in 1999. She then
moved to Peterborough to be closer to her grandchildren.

Ruth was a very independent woman, with strong opinions, and a fierce love of her grandchildren,
Laura, Jonathan, Emily, Cecilia, Kyle and Tyler. She had 3 great grandchildren; Zeanix, Finley and
Lincoln. She was an active walker and swimmer for many years. She had an interest in the natural world,
and often commented on the birds and other bits of nature that she saw on her walks. She was a lover
of dogs and cats; every home that she lived in had a dog or cat, or both.

The last several months of her life were difficult health wise. She became less independent, and made
several trips to the hospital. She moved to Extendicare in Lakefield on November 15th, and her health
continued to decline. Several of her family members visited her there in her last days and hours. She
passed away early Monday morning.

She was loved by her family, and she loved them. May she rest in peace.
