Obituary for Stephen Mayhew

MAYHEW, Stephen Paul James

Passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday, October 9th, 2022, after living his life to the fullest, for 55 great years.

Steve was born December 11, 1966, in Kingston, Ontario by a beautiful and loved mother (Wanda Mayhew) and late father (Kenneth Mayhew), not long after the family would add the second and final son (Scott Mayhew) to create a beautiful family of his own (Candace, Kendall and Kayleigh). Steve then went onto getting his culinary degree at St Lawrence College with a Red Seal Endorsement and work his way up the ladder of the Culinary Industry.

All would change once meeting the beautiful woman he would cherish as his wife for 14 years (Tammy Mayhew), having two amazing and loving boys that truly meant the world to him (Jacob & Jarod Mayhew). He would find himself living his beloved years in Peterborough, Ontario commuting to Warkworth Penitentiary to support his family. Building a long-esteemed career throughout the prison starting off in Food Services, his beloved passion and continuing that path for 30+ respected years in many departments throughout the prison.

Goals of ice-cold rum & coke on a beach in Florida taken from him just a few years too soon.

Building relationships that will last lifetimes was what Steve was best at. He would have a smile at the right time, a hug in the right place and the qualities to make anyone look up to the man, he prided himself on being the best father, husband, and son anyone could ask for and without a doubt, he didn’t disappoint.

Steve was always an adventurous and outgoing man, training and coaching his two boys growing up in hockey, taking his “boys” weekend trips’ down south to grow his soon to be obsession with pickleball. It was the new love of his life, coming home to his son Jacob giving him an ear full about the latest pickleball gossip, or showing off his shiny new medal from another tournament. He spent his final best years traveling, making memories, meeting new people and above all living the happiest healthiest life. For nothing loved is ever lost and oh you were ever so loved dad.

Family and friends will be received at Ashburnham Funeral Home & Reception Centre, 840 Armour Road, Peterborough on Saturday the October 15, 2022 from 2-4pm and 6-9pm. The Celebration of Life will be held on a later date and updated by the family. The family requests instead of flowers to bring any photos you may have of Steve and/or a donation to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Online condolences may be made at AshburnhamFuneral.ca
