Obituary

McNabb: Sylvia Frances
Peacefully at Hospice Peterborough on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 in her 80th year. Beloved wife of the late William “Bill” for 53 years. Loving mother of Steve (Zoe King) of Toronto, and Tim (Lara McNabb) of Australia. Proud Grammy of Grier, Joy, and Alexander “Xan”. Dear sister of Marilyn (Eion), Catheryn (Allan), and the late Gilbert. Sylvia will be remembered by many other relatives and friends, including her black poodle “Sam”. Sylvia was a Registered Nurse whose 53 year career included work at Civic Hospital and the Medical Centre. An avid gardener and devoted wife, mother, and Grammy, Sylvia’s optimism and good humour cheered all who knew her. Sylvia enjoyed spending summers camping with Bill and their children in their trailer, and later in life enjoyed drumming, mah-jong, visiting her grandchildren in Peterborough and Australia, and a glass of wine each Friday night. Visitation will be held at ASHBURNHAM FUNERAL HOME, 840 Armour Road, Peterborough, on Wednesday, April 14th at 11 a.m. Due to Covid restrictions, RSVP is required and may be made at www.AshburnhamFuneral.ca Friends are invited to view a webcast of the Memorial Service on Wednesday at 2 pm. Registration required. If desired, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.

Dear Steve, Tim and families, words can't express how sad we are at learning of the passing of Sylvia. Such fond memories of Sylvia during our brief time enjoying her and Bills hospitality in 2014 on our honeymoon where we also decided to get married and roped them into being at the wedding. During that time Sylvia kindly stepped into the roles of host, travel adviser, wedding planner, trouser taker upperer and her most important role – Drinking Buddy.

Our Love and thoughts go to the family at this time. Cam, Teena, Oli & Izzy

Sylvia was one of the most genuine people I have ever had the pleasure of having for a friend and a member of the family. Whether she was playing with Grier and Joy or gardening barefoot in her garden, she was 100% real and present whatever she was doing. Her devotion to Bill and her sons was unreserved and heartfelt. She was know at the medical center as one of the best 'receptionists' in the building, always going above and beyond what was expected with kindness, wisdom and a calm reassuring way. I will miss her smile, her giving ways and her cups of tea.

Sylvia and Bill were longtime next door neighbours and you could not ask for two kinder and more genuine people. Between Bill's daily , usually off colour, jokes and Sylvia's nonstop energy and smile they could not help but brighten up your day. I have an image of Sylvia etched in my mind, out in her garden while Sammy ( no 1) and Bill supervised from the deck. To Tim and Steve and the so adored Grandchildren my deepest regrets consoled by how wonderful your parents were. They were second parents, sometimes first parents, to my children and they will share in your loss. Michael Gick
