PAGE, Vera May (nee Mitchell)
April 1, 1924 – February 27, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vera Page, at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre, in her 99th year.
Vera was born on Rogers Street in Peterborough and spent her childhood in Hastings, Picton, and Cold Springs before moving back to Peterborough. She was frequently recognized through her exploits on the golf course, on the baseball diamond, and at the bowling alley. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold, with whom she had a wonderful life of travel, golf, dancing, euchre, and crossword puzzles. She never once removed her wedding ring in 70 years.
Vera spent her later years at Applewood Retirement Residence, where she was an avid exerciser and reader, followed her beloved Toronto Blue Jays, and loved to socialize – especially at happy hour. We’d like to thank the staff for their patience and care for the last 16 years.
Vera will be dearly missed by her son, Gord (Dianne); her grandchildren, Rob (Tara), Kristi, Scott, and Tim (Hannah); and her great grandchildren, Kyle and Poppy. She is predeceased by her father, James, her mother, Elsie, and her brother, Jimmy (Irene). She will be remembered as being fiercely independent, generous, a chronic exerciser, a clothes horse, and a social butterfly, among other things.
A memorial service will be held at the Ashburnham Funeral Home - 840 Armour Road, Peterborough on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at 2:00 PM, with visitation commencing one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the Kawartha Food Share or a charity of your choice.
