It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved mom, Wilhelmina Hofman-Joosten on Friday March 26th 2021 at our home surrounded by those she loved. Mom was in her 91st year and made great use of all those years she had. She was born and raised in Venlo, Holland and lived through the war as a young teen. Mom was allowed to travel to England after the war as one of many to go help out english families. She was the third of 12 children and is survived by 2 sisters and 2 brothers. In 1953 she married our dad, immigrated to Canada and settled in Whitby ON. We later moved to a farm in north Oshawa and mom always said that living there was the best time of her life.

Mom has 3 children, MaryAnn (Ron), Roy (Sandy), Liz (Reg), 12 grandchildren, Alycia (Chris), Chris, Peter (Charlene), Tracey, Russ (Jackie), Andrea (Graham) Stephanie (Mike), Dillon, Jennifer (Fil) and Steven, 9 great grandchildren, Savannah, Bryce, Hayley, Chrystine (Leon), Casandra, Caitlyn, Korbin and Mila and 2 great-great grandchildren Elliot, Leonardo and loved each one of them with all her heart and soul. Mom had one true love of her life, our dad for almost 30 years and then one man our step-dad that helped her through a bad time and gave her a nice life for almost 20 years till he passed. From that marriage mom has a step-daughter, Jacqueline (Joos), 2 grandchildren, Listte (Arjan), Saunder (Maud) and one great-grandchild, Quinn in Holland.
Mom was a big fan of sports and came to watch all our games as kids and adults. Soccor, hockey and baseball, where her favorite and she loved the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Jays, I will miss watching her cheer and yell at the screen.

For the last few years of mom's life she struggled to breathe as COPD and lung disease almost took her many times, but she was a fighter, a tough, stubborn woman with a mind of her own and she was determined to stay around. We will never forget the bravery and strength of our mom, the love she had for all those in her life, her wonderful sense of humor and the encouragement that she gave us each day to move forward. Rest in peace mom...until we meet again!

We thank all those that prayed for her and enormous thanks to St. Elizabeth Nursing. Kawartha Therapy Services, and most of all to Dr. Brendan Hughes for all their caring and loving support of our mom and us during this agonizing time.
In lieu of flowers we ask that you make a donation to the Canadian Lung Association in her name.

The Broken Chain
by: Ron Tranmer

We little knew that day
God was going to call your name
in life we loved you dearly
in death we do the same.

It broke our hearts to lose you
but you didn't go alone
for part of us went with you
that day God called you home.

You left us beautiful memories
your love is still our guide
and though we cannot see you
you are always at our side.

Our family chain is broken
and nothing seems the same
but as God calls us one by one
the chain will link again.

I miss you so much mom.......

Our deepest sympathy and condolences on your moms passing.
Losing a loved one is an extreme pain to bear.
Focus not on the loss, but the love she left behind.
